Philip Harris is an illustrator and printmaker based just outside Exeter. He draws constant inspiration from his lifelong home of Devon, where sweeping moorlands, untamed coastlines, and ancient woods define the land and deeply influence his art.

While studying illustration, he inherited a collection of dip pen nibs from his grandfather, who taught art but passed away before Philip was born. Using these tools gave him a strong connection to his family. The dip pens became his first link to line drawing, letting him explore line and detail in his illustrations. Over time, this interest in mark-making led him to try relief printmaking, and his illustrations naturally fit processes such as linocut, wood engraving, and etching, which allow a mix of sharp detail and deep shadow. Each technique shapes and informs how his work moves forward.

Recently, Philip has had the opportunity to explore his love of storytelling and history through commissions such as 'Stonelands' by Fiona Robertson and 'The Shipwreck Atlas' by Jo Arnold. In his personal work, he has extended these interests by capturing the stories and folklore around him in Devon.
